Tim Bailey – Pinehurst, NC
My son Jared Bailey and I are a father and son racing team from Pinehurst N.C. Having always been an old car guy and primarily a 55-6-7 guy i didn’t get into drag racing until I was 50 years old being 58 now.,My son and I were at Farmington Dragway some years back and the drag racing bug bit to build a nostalgia car and so the 55 chevy was a natural because of having had so many of them we had plenty of parts. After a few years we built a 41 willys to race also, I drive the willys and my son Jared drives the 55 . Jared is 31 and shares the same straight axle 4 speed sickness as I do. We were currently racing with a 4 speed exibition group called The Classic Gear Jammers and after being contacted by my buddy Quain about him and a couple of friends putting together a period correct group of gassers decided to race with them also . The 55 has been in service for 8 years and the willys 1 year. The 55 has a 388ci smallblock chevy engine , a tex t101a 4 speed transmission and a ford 9″ rear. The willys has a 406ci smallblock chevy engine, a tex t101a 4 speed and a dana 60 rear. The two cars that we race have no known racing history but were built by ourselves to honor the gasser heritage and the people from this period in drag racing. So many people asked back when I was building the 55 ,why is the front end so high and where’s the front bumper that my question in return was how old are you? You just gotta love it and we do!
